TEARS .... (A SP EXERCISE..REMEMBERING NEW ORLEANS)

Tears from a pain so deep
Only God could feel
Broken spirits
Loss of life
Tragedy
most of us
will never feel
dead bodies lying in the street
Heads unaccounted for
A death some will never meet
Why hast thou forsaken me
Cries at Heaven's door
and the government wonders
what they're crying for
What a horrible way to downplay
this gruesome tragedy
a fate that will be written
in the books of history
Some shifted to exiles unknown
Promises to start anew
funds to make another home
But I wonder how you would handle it
If it happened to you
Money can't heal every pain
We are the ones responsible
for giving them hope again
this thing is deeper than we can understand
Was this slain child counted
in the many who were lost
Was this mothers' tears
cried in vain..
Who will pay the cost?
As I sit in my home today
with all my comfort and ease
I have to remember...
I could at anytime be
anyone of these
whether it be a flood,
an accident
or a wrongful act of man
Let us all pray for compassion
and whenever possible...

lend a helping hand

  4. Truth...the truth will never be told, and some families will grieve forver behind the bungling of govt procedures....All we can do is pray for the hearts of those poeple, and for each other that if it happens again...and it will, that they will handle it better.
We are in the midst of another Hurricane season....Do you feel the anxiety of the states within its path....

  6. This is a heartfelt agony that has been going on far too long...our government speaks of patriotism, but how patriotic is it to leave these people like this. There are people still unable to reunite with family and probably never will. There is so much sorrow inside me for these families.

  8. I wrote a piece last year after I returned from Mississippi and one week after Katrina. I was devastated beyond words. I had a project for a writing group that I was in and this was the topic. I had declined to do exercise at first , but I later did it. When I find it on my pc, I will post it as well... thanks for this Joyce because so many have forgotten that there are still people who are homeless and we continue our lives as though it never happened...we must remember!!!

  9. I agree with you!
I have another piece I did on my 360 page, but I'm kinda like preaching, so I left it over there...LOL
But, I keep thinking, if but for the grace foGod, either of those hurricanes could have come up the coast, to Virginia, and wiped me out.
We never think it could happen to us....TIL IT DOES

  21. Joyce, you touched beautifully on the painfully realites of Katrina's aftermath. I felt both pain and gratitude as I read your words. These were the feelings I felt when I watch my tv a year ago with a heavy heart. Thanks for sharing.

  22. Harry...Your words say it all. compassion, prayers, and action will help so many people, not only in disasters, but in our own back yards....

  23. Javelle....Im glad you feel where I was trying to go with it. Right to the heart, for action, and not anger. The govt handled it horribly, and now its up to the poeple to find their way....
