Sundays With Joyce

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!

Psalm 37:7

I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.

Psalm 40:1

for the righteous falls seven times and rises again,
but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.

Proverbs 24:16

but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5

But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Romans 8:25

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

Hebrews 10:35-36

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

James 1:2-4

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Patience is the art of caring slowly.

Patience can't be acquired overnight. It is just like building up a muscle.
Every day you need to work on it.

Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that is patience."

Patience is the companion of wisdom.

Let nothing disturb thee; Let nothing dismay thee; All thing pass; God never changes. Patience attains All that it strives for. He who has God Finds he lacks nothing:God alone suffices."

Patience and fortitude conquer all things

Faith is not simply a patience that passively suffers until the storm is past. Rather, it is a spirit that bears things - with resignations, yes, but above all, with blazing, serene hope."

  1. Well said, dear friend. One must always have patience and not sit around waiting for God to "fix" things. One must keep going and in time God will help you make things happen.

    Great post this morning. God bless.

  2. Thank you, Pam. Most of all, I hear my spirit saying, have patience with yourself. We are often so hard on ourselves when we want things done...now.

    Thanks for your encouraging words....

    Happy Sunday!

  3. You are sooo right. So many want things to happen NOW. I just let the chips fall where they may and let God deal with the rest. Like this possible layoff at work. Am I worried? Yes, but I'm not going to let something that may or may not happen take over my life. I have to many other things to worry about and take care. My mom always said "patience is a virtue".

  4. Even though I can't see
    and I can't feel your touch
    I will trust you Lord
    how I love you so much
    though my nights my seem long
    and I feel so alone
    Lord my trust is in you
    I surrender to you

    (bridge)
    so many painful thoughts
    travel through my mind
    and i wonder how
    i will make it through this time

    (chorus)
    but i trust you
    lord it's not easy
    sometimes the pain in my life
    makes you seem far away
    but i'll trust you
    i need to know you're here
    through the tears and the pain
    through the heartache and rain

    i'll trust you

    (verse 2)
    everything that i see
    tells me not to believe
    but i'll trust you lord
    you have never failed me
    my past still controls me
    will this hurt ever leave?
    i can only trust you
    no one else like you do

    (bridge)

    (chorus)

    (vamp)
    ***i can
    i will
    i must
    trust you **repeat**

    ***i will
    trust you ***repeat***

    (modulate)

    ***i will
    trust you ***repeat***

    (modulate)
    ***i'll trust you (x3)
    i will***repeat***

    god will make a way (x4)

  5. We have to decide if we're going to worry, or pray and trust.

    You are so right...

    What words of confidence

    Giving one faith and above all hope.

    And giving all of us time to reflect.
