My idea of 'maternal instinct' is being able to know when to eat them and when to eat what might eat them. My mom got that confused at times I think. I know she tried to eat me more than once when I was little.

I didn't have a good relationship with my mother growing up because I was born.
I was about 30 years old when I learned to really appreciate my mother's wisdom. My mom taught me that a parents love is not always unconditional and that the people who are closest to you are often the ones capable of the greatest brutality. Because of that - I have learned to be very careful with my own childrens' egos. It may be easier because they are boys but I don't want to damage them. And I want them to know that I love them deeply.
No matter how old I get, the thing about my mother that makes me love her more and more is that I have fewer and fewer days with her left. My mom taught me that you can forgive - even if the other person doesn't see that he or she has done you wrong.
Being a mother, the thing I just don't get about mothering is how can anything you love so much piss you off so much? Again. I have boys. Teenaged BOYS.

Oh Vinnie....I do not have the words to say to make it better. And, besides who could , except a sibling, or someone who has been around you all of the time you were developing your bond with your mother. We can't take away the sadness, the hurt, the emptiness you feel.
ReplyDeleteI just pray that in time...your time, and mostly God's time, that thinking about your mother will be comforting, soothing, and meaningful to you Something she said will come back to you, and wrap around you like a hug that just came from her. I can say this because I know...not guessing..I know. My head shot is of my mother, and what I went through to get this picture online, was eclipsed by how I felt looking at her smiling back at me. A mixture of emotions enveloped me, but deep down, after 32 years out of my life, it felt like she was smiling back at me, like she was here, today. For endless moments...I just smiled back at her....I remembered....that she is only here...in my heart. SO I know how you feel and I wish you peace, and serenity as you begin the next stage of your journey with her in your heart....
