Apologetics
2. Be ready with answer 1 Peter 3:15 But, sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
3. Be salt Matthew 5: 13 Ye are the salt of the Earth: but if the salt has lost its savor, where with shall it be salted? It is henceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men
4. Contend for the faith Jude 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
5. Paul reasoned with the Jews and the Gentiles Acts 17:2; 18:4,9 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scripture. And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
Paid In Full
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box.
Curious, and somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angry, he rose his voice to his father and said "with all your money, you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father's house, a sudden feeling of sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still gift-wrapped Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt.7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?"
As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God's blessings because we can't see past our own desires?

I tell you I love my Sunday mornings with my Minister Joyce. Thank you for sharing such powerful knowledge and wisdom.
ReplyDeleteI have a question though and would like your answer. If this son was to fall to his knees, repent for his wicked ways ask his father for his forgiveness through his spirit,do you think he will be forgive and find peace or is it to late to apologize hhhhmmmm.....
Wonderful post and very thought provoking. Sometimes along this journey of mine, I lose sight of God's desire for me, b/c I'm so busy trying to figure out my own desire, not realizing I'm losing out on my blessings. Not just a natural blessing, b/c everything isn't about money, but a spiritual and mental blessing. Thank you for this post Joyce.
ReplyDeleteyou know j....u are so right.... i had an instance when i just said ok jesus.....and had really given in....'not out'.......and the blessing was right there.....all the while...it's like donny say....."STAND"..... thanks for that message j....much luv gurl
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL!!! I know of a few people that would benefit from reading this (and all of your wonderful postings...) Even though it is hard sometimes, I have learned that before I can forgive someone for something, I first must forgive myself for any wrongdoing I may have done. I don't think it's ever to late to ask forgiveness even if that person is no longer of this world. I feel that the person will show me in spirit that I am forgiven. Hope that made sense.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for yet another great Sunday with Joyce. I don't need to go to church..I have my own little "church" right here. Thanks for being your wonderful self! God Bless you, Joyce!
Deep...In this case, it would seem apparent that the son only had to forgive himself. The father went on to live his life, knowing that the son didn't understand the gift that was given. He could have told him that the car keys were in the Bible...but he wanted the son to find God for himself...the hard way.
ReplyDeleteHe really did give him the best gift, even if the keys weren't included...and it took him a lifetime to see it. I feel like he did that..eventually.
Thanks for opening up that question. I hadn't thought it out that far...
Cocoa...I think you got it. While we seek for natural things as humans, we need not forget that spiritual blessings are far better!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!
I amso glad you got that out of this, FEMM....The thing about being held responsible for our own lives, and realizing that God is going to be somewhere in it..is the most amazing part of life...to me...
ReplyDeleteThanks you for bringing that out for us. I like it when we all get something different from the same scripture..
Pam..I wouldn't go that far. lol Although it is your choice, I only serve as a inspirational voice, seeking to awaken the spiritual part of all of us. I happen to think all of us need a kind word, and something to encourage us along the way.
ReplyDeleteI am blessed to have friends like you who think the same way!
Thanks; I always enjoy you...
Awesome

ReplyDeleteThank U Ispearmani....very much!
ReplyDeleteMocha...Thanks for stopping by. I'm happy you liked this....
ReplyDeleteI love this, thank you, Joyce. I will hide this carefully in my heart.
ReplyDeleteI like this lesson. The son was indeed given 'the key' but he cursed it and rejected his father. The son was blessed in life inspite of what he did but was still dis-eased within himself. Something always happens that draws us back to the origin of our issues so we have the opportunity to heal. It is never too late. Sometimes what looks like a curse is just the flipside of a blessing in progress. I believe there are lessons in curses. I've lived long enough for someone who once cursed me now calls me blessed. I did not hold the curse against her because I realized she actually cursed herself for the life she chose. I'm rambling but thanks Joyce...peace
ReplyDeleteIncredibly....As I will! Thanks for sharing this...

Maize...very strong words. Although I don't feel like she cursed herself, as much as she didn't understand that she was blessing you by trying to keep her feet on you. We're supposed to pray for them that curse us. Living our lives the best we know how, and 'killing them with kindness' is the best can do sometimes.
I think you're a better person because of it.
Thank U for sharing your heart.....
Thank you for this, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSweet lady...you're more than welcome!
