Today, my day is being filled with remembrances of Dr. King.....and the progress he foresaw for all Americans, but especially black Americans. While we have made strides, we still have a long ways to go. We have a "people" problem.....learning to get along with each other, and support each other's dreams.
Right now, it is other countries against us, so we should ban together and attempt to eradicate war, poverty, sickness, and diseases on our own soil, so that we can fend ourselves against terrorism. Giving us pride in ourselves, and our country helps.
Hatred is too small a thing to feed, in these evil and last days. Racism, separatism, and jealousy will be the death of us. We need to take time to learn about each others cultures, and religions, because only ONE true church will make it to Heaven, and it is not a building...
In our own lives, I think it can begin. One step at a time. Reaching out to those near us, whether it be family members, friends, or strangers...Let us show God how much we love HIM. It's not about us anyway. You know--those good things we do for no other reason than to glorify His name. So He can have favor for us when we come to His throne, asking for the desires of our heart...
Remembering the biblical phrase--if my people who are called by my name, would humble themselves, seek my face, and pray, I will heal their land...
Excerpts from his speech,"What is your life's Blueprint?"
"....And I say to you, my young friends, doors are opening to you--doors of opportunities that were not open to your mothers and your fathers — and the great challenge facing you is to be ready to face these doors as they open.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great essayist, said in a lecture in 1871, "If a man can write a better book or preach a better sermon or make a better mousetrap than his neighbor, even if he builds his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door." ..."
"....If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well. If you can't be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be be the best little shrub on the side of the hill.
Be a bush if you can't be a tree. If you can't be a highway, just be a trail. If you can't be a sun, be a star. For it isn't by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are...."

Amen..Amen..Amen...
ReplyDeleteand so the light of your star shines bright as infinite suns...while your tree offers shade of solace to the burning truths...

Well done Joyce. Thanks for reminding US all that he was never in the business of attempting to give us a holiday but to give US a feature with the ability to make our own history worth remembering. It's too bad that our political leaders have no feelings on it.
